Daria On DVD: Yet Another Bootleg

So, I received the Daria box set yesterday -- it does indeed contain the eleven discs, but:

  1. By 'Custom Artwork' it means 'The Box Cover' (which does not actually have the MTV logo like the picture on the site, the actual discs themselves are white with a standard logo imprint)
  2. By 'Un-Edited & Commercial Free' it means 'Probably Downloaded from the Internet and Converted to MPEG for use on DVD' (some of the episodes have graphic logos advertising websites i've never heard of at the start, while others have the Tivo logo, some even have PVR capture logos at the start, followed by the PG rating in the top left hand corner).
So, yes -- it's another bootleg, pity.

The search continues, maybe one day MTV will obtain the music rights (or fix whatever other reason exists) and put it on DVD, 26,000 fans with internet connectivity can't be wrong.

Please :)

Daria On DVD: Have We Succeeded?

I don't believe it.

Sometimes, over the past 10 months or so, i've typed " "daria dvd" unedited " (that's two words in quotes and then the word unedited).

Usually there's the DVDaria petition as the first match.

Today there was something different.

It's out there, maybe.

All 5 Seasons.
Commercial Free.
Un-edited
On 11 Discs
... with Custom Artwork

Only problem -- it could be a bootleg.

Especially given the tales of bootlegs in the past. (although, it's no different to the Star Wars 'Original Trilogy' Laserdiscs that have been around for years).

The cover does indeed sport an MTV logo, but the MTV Daria site doesn't say anything about it -- the two official discs were both region-less releases, which this is.

Shipping says it'll be 8-12 days processing time (because the discs are shipped directly from the supplier -- who I presume would be MTV if it was a legitimate release) plus 7 days shipping time.

So, i've placed an order -- the way I figure it, if it's even half decent -- I can clean up my DVD recorder -- and with the rather nice AUD->USD exchange rate right now, $60USD + $15 shipping is about what people decided they'd pay for legitimate releases from MTV anyway.

Time will tell :)

25,000 Signatures Reached

The DVDaria petition has reached 25,000 signatures -- still at an average price of $50USD for a box set!

If you haven't already, consider signing up, or buying the already available discs "Is It Fall Yet" and "Is It College Yet" from Amazon and show the people at MTV exactly how serious we are to get a decent TV show released on DVD for a change.

Outpost Daria Closing?

After 8 and a half years, one of the best Daria sites on the web for fan-fiction, fan artwork, news, episode guides, heck -- let's just call it everything, Outpost Daria is closing, Martin has been a constant in the Daria fan-scene for what feels like ever, but personal issues have forced him to stop updates to his site.

Good luck with whatever comes next Martin, I wish you all the best.

Happy Tenth Anniversary

Ten years ago today, Esteemsters (or, Episode 1, Season 1) went to air on MTV.

Over 5 seasons comprising over 60 episodes, with 2 full-length movies later, Daria is still as clever, funny and infinitely watchable as it ever was, with a dead-keen fanbase just itching for the day when MTV decide to release it on DVD.

DVDaria

Have you, loyal reader -- added your name to the petition?

Nearly 25,000 signatures and growing -- hopefully MTV will see sense (or dollars) and put it up on DVD sooner, rather than later.

edit: I note that the average price seems to be around $49.99USD at the moment, surely that says something?

Daria By Numbers

Added Daria By Numbers to the sidebar to your right, a fan-based poll of the top Daria episodes broken down into a rank system -- have to agree with most of the choices, maybe if Blogger decide to add a polling system i'll do a similar poll here ... After all, it'd be interesting to see how the results alter two or three years down the track

Sick, Sad World and Glitter Berries

Added two sites to the sidebar, Sick, Sad World and Glitter Berries are fansites that have everything from fan-faction, to desktop backgrounds, music remixes and more.

SSW has a neat Warhol-esque Jane picture by 'Ace' which i'm currently using as the background on my laptop, which intrigues people around the office no end.

Daria Wars

Browsing around Outpost Daria I found this neat piece of artwork by John Takis, featuring the population of Lawndale as the famed 1977 Star Wars poster.

Cool eh?
